The Hawaii Medical Service Association (HMSA) promoted healthy living at the Kona Health Expo. The free community event, held at the Kona Crossroads Shopping Center, emphasized fun and included free health screenings, health information, activities and giveaways. Today’s expo also gave the public an opportunity to sign up for HMSA’s Online Care, which enables people to connect with a doctor from HMSA’s network online or by telephone.

Attendees learned about the importance of electronic personal health records; took advantage of free glucose, cholesterol and blood pressure screenings; and entered to win computer webcams. Safeway pharmacists also conducted “brown bag” medication reviews.

Demonstrations and hands-on computer practice highlighted the ease and accessibility of HMSA’s Online Care. HMSA representatives helped people sign up and learn how to navigate through this innovative service.

HMSA’s Online Care allows Hawaii residents to connect with a local physician 24 hours a day, online or by phone.

HMSA is a nonprofit, mutual benefit association founded in Hawaii in 1938. It is governed by a community board of directors that includes representatives from health care, business, labor, government, education, clergy, and the community at large. Nationally, HMSA and 38 other Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans provide worldwide coverage to more than 100 million members.
